New Form for Indicating Agricultural Pesticides for Toxicological Safety Reevaluation

by | Oct 9, 2023 | Blog, Life Sciences

On September 29, 2023, ANVISA announced the availability of a new form for indicating agricultural pesticides to undergo reevaluation for their toxicological safety. It is important to note that technical and scientific information supporting the indication must be provided as per RDC 221/2018.

The indications submitted through this form will be considered in the development of a new list of active ingredients in pesticides to undergo reevaluation. A more robust risk matrix will be created to classify and select the products to be reevaluated.

The toxicological reevaluation of agricultural pesticides is one of ANVISA’s responsibilities, occurring after the grant of commercial registration for products, when there are suspicions of unacceptable risks to human health related to a specific active ingredient. It involves a review of the registration of products that may pose health risks not identified during the initial registration.

Based on the results of the reevaluation, products may be suspended, prohibited, or have their registration maintained, with or without the implementation of health protection measures, in accordance with Article 19 of Decree 4,074/2002.
