On December 28, the Brazilian PTO published Ordinance PR # 56/2021, with new conditions for the submission of Sequence Listing files. The new ordinance comes into effect from today (January 03, 2022), and revokes Ordinance PR # 405/2020.

The previous Ordinance (PR # 405/2020) mainly referred to the transition of the submission of the Sequence Listing files from Standard ST.25 (.txt) to Standard ST.26 (.xml). According to this previous Ordinance, all Sequence Listing would have had to be submitted before the Brazilian PTO in the new format (.xml) from the beginning of 2022 onwards.

However, the new ordinance PR # 56/2021 postponed this obligation to present the Sequence Listing in the new format to July 1, 2022. In other words, until June 30 of this year, the Brazilian PTO will continue to accept the submission of Sequence Listing files in the ST.25 format. During this transition period, the Sequence Listing file in the new format, ST.26, can be submitted voluntarily to the Brazilian PTO.

We also take this opportunity to inform you that the activities of the group of testers on the WIPO Sequence Improvement Project, which DANIEL LAW was invited to assist in the development of the Sequence Listing software, are now concluded.
