Guilherme Coutinho
Patent Specialist

Guilherme Coutinho graduated in Industrial Chemistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), with a postgraduate degree in Processing, Management and Environment in the Oil and Natural Gas Industry from UFRJ and the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), presenting a final project on “Synthesis of water mains in an oil refinery” and a master’s degree in Chemical and Biochemical Process Technology from UFRJ, with his master’s thesis on “Technological roadmap of andiroba and copaíba species”. During his undergraduate studies, Guilherme worked on research projects in the areas of synthesis and characterization of inorganic compounds and oil-absorbing resins, as well as a research project for the analysis of plant carbon samples present in soil samples at the Martin-Luther-University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany).

Guilherme Coutinho has worked in the area of Intellectual Property since 2011 and joined Daniel Law as a patent specialist in 2019. His field of activity covers all aspects related to the prosecution of patent applications at Brazilian PTO, with particular emphasis on patent applications in the area chemistry, pharmacy and biotechnology, also working in the protection of cultivars. Guilherme works in the reporting and response of technical opinions issued by the Brazilian PTO, in the preparation of third-party observations for technical examination, searches in general, administrative nullity processes. Guilherme has full knowledge of normative instructions, examination guidelines, Industrial Property Law (Brazilian IP Law) and the main intellectual property treaties.

In addition to having worked in other offices, Guilherme worked as an innovation agent in the Coordination of Technological Management at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), responsible for establishing strategies for protecting intellectual property.
