[i]<\/a><\/p>\n Sun Tzu or General SunTzu was a Chinese General well-known by his lessons about war and related strategies which concepts fit perfectly for business and, more particularly, for marketing strategies.[ii]<\/a><\/p>\n Indeed, historians don\u2019t know the exact date of his book publication; in fact, they are not totally sure whether a real person with that name really existed or if that book \u201cis a compilation of generations of Chinese theories and teachings on military strategy\u201d. While the number of patents filed is not a guarantee of winning a battle at the forefront of the technology of many industry sectors, lacking patents is certainty of defeat.
\nEither as a \u201cone-man theory\u201d or being a compilation of thoughts from various people along the time, that lesson couldn\u2019t be more appropriate in the present days in which Covid-19 inhibits the \u201cnormal\u201d course of actions in business.
\nThe number of patent applications filed is a reliable indicator of the innovation activity in its various aspects, such as a number of citations by other patents, quality of inventions etc. [iii]<\/a>,<\/sup> [iv]<\/a><\/p>\n
\nAs per the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) data [v]<\/a>,[vi]<\/a>, exception being made to 2009, when the world plunged in unprecedent crisis, year by year there is an increase in the number of patent applications filed [vii]<\/a>.<\/p>\n
