The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) published the second version of the guide for determining the expiry dates of food products sold in Brazil on July 3. Developed based on international references, the document aims to enhance food safety standards in the country.
New Guidelines Based on Best Global Practices

This new guide, which is now in effect, sets guidelines based on the best international regulatory practices. Contributions came from renowned authorities in Australia, New Zealand, and the International Alliance of Dietary/Food Supplements Associations (IADSA). Additionally, the guide incorporates preservation technologies recommended by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
Updates and Improvements

The second version of the guide has been revised to include updates in terminology, methodological improvements, and feedback received from the public and experts during the first consultation period. The document is divided into two main parts: the first explains the theoretical concepts regarding food alterations, while the second presents methods and protocols for determining expiry dates.
Public Participation

The guidelines contained in the guide will be open for contributions for 180 days. Interested parties can submit their suggestions until the end of the established period through the link: ANVISA Survey.
